CHENNAI: Ullas Trust, Corporate Social Responsibility arm of Chennai's IT major, Polaris Software Lab celebrated its eighth year with an annual workshop for the underprivileged deserving students. Continuing its tradition of recognising and rewarding academic excellence in economically deprived students, the Trust awarded scholarships to 1400 students across 201 schools and `Ullas Young Achievers Higher Education Scholarships' to 20 deserving students. In his inaugural address, Arun Jain, Chairman & Managing Director, Polaris Software Lab, said: "After encouraging the young achievers to spell their dreams and their action plans to realise them, Ullas Trust being an enabler, goes beyond scholarships to help fulfil those dreams. Our partnership with the District Library Authority, Chennai, to provide library membership is one of this year's initiatives in taking the dreams towards reality." The highlights of the annual workshop included Young Achievers Scholarships, the Ullas `Encouraging Excellence in Education' Triple-E Award category presented to Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Ashok Nagar and its Principal, Kalavathi for Best Principal. This year the Trust introduced a Special Award in this category for Children's Garden Higher Secondary School, Mylapore. The winners of Ullas Painting Competition 2005 are D. G. Anandha Kumar and B. Balaji from Hindu Theological Hr Sec School and K. Roopadevi from Jai Gopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya. C.Sylendra Babu, Joint Commissioner of Police, Dr. Nitish Birdi, Joint Commissioner of Customs Chennai Airport, Karunanidhi, Registrar, Madras University and Latha Rajnikanth participated. Sarath Kumar, film personality, conducted an interactive workshop for students. Ullas Trust has been organising `You Can Do It' workshops for the last seven years to expose young minds to achievers from the real world. The Trust also provides an opportunity to students to `touch and feel' the corporate environment and be mentored by successful software professionals.
