Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended on Thursday from 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Maduravoyal and Kalmandapam areas and on Friday in the Kadapperi SS, Foreshore Estate and Mandaveli areas.

ATM opened

The 19th ATM of City Union Bank was opened at its Anna Salai branch on Monday.

S. Rajaratnam, V. Jayaraman and P. Vaidyanathan, Directors of the bank, S. Sridharan, general manager, S. Sekar, deputy general manager and S. Badrinath, branch manager participated.

Urs celebrations

The Chief Khazi to the Government of Tamil Nadu, Mufti Dr. Salahuddin Mohamed Ayub Saheb performed the flag-hoisting ceremony (Nishan) on the premises of the Dargah Hazrath Syed Moosa Sha Kanderi, popular as Anna Salai Dargah to mark commencement of the Annual Day celebrations of the Sandal and Urs.

The chief hereditary trustee of the Dargah, Syed Moinuddin, took part in the function.

Onam programmes

Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School is celebrating Onam with various programmes on September 9.

The highlight is a dance-drama presented by students, teachers and parents.

Diabetic check up

A free diabetic retinopathy check up was organised at Dr. SLN Diabetes Centre and Research Institute on Sunday by a team of doctors from Sankara Nethralaya.

About 180 diabetic patients were screened. Of the 42 patients diagnosed with retinopathy, seven required immediate treatment.

The programme was led by the diabetes centre, Lions Club of Central Madras and Diabetic Association of India.

Temple clean-up

Volunteers of Sevas, a T. Nagar-based social service organisation, undertook the cleaning of the Arulmigu Managheeswarar temple at Melur, Minjur on Sunday.

A total of 72 volunteers took part in the effort.

Free Sanskrit coaching

Fellowship of Sanskrit College will organise free Sanskrit coaching for students of MA Sanskrit through correspondence courses or in Open Universities.

This apart, students of Sanskrit can avail of the guidance classes conducted by the College.

Seminar on multiplex

A seminar on the concept of cineplex and multiplex will be held by the ITCOT Consultancy and Services in Chennai on September 14.

Experts from ITCOT, banks and technology-providers and multiplexes would highlight issues relating to the establishment of cineplex and multiplex.
