`Go in for bio-fertilizers for better yield'

TIRUCHI: A seminar on System of Rice Intensification (SRI) Technique for farmers was organised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Sirugamani recently.

The interactive-seminar was aimed at gathering the experience of farmers who had tried the SRI method of rice cultivation in their fields.

Dr. T.M. Thiagarajan, Dean, Agricultural College, Killikulam, Tuticorin district, who introduced the SRI method in the state, explained its salient features through a power point presentation.

Dr. S. Anthoni Raj, Dean, Anbil Dharmalingam Agricultural College and Research Institute, Tiruchi, emphasised the need to go in for bio-fertilizers for better yield.

The Joint Director of Agriculture, Narayanasamy, highlighted the efforts taken by the Department of Agriculture in popularising the SRI method among farmers of Tiruchi district.

Farmers from Tiruchi, Karur, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Namakkal, Salem, Cuddalore and Pudukottai shared their experiences during the interactive session, a press release from the Kendra said.
