BANGALORE: Unidentified persons on Tuesday murdered a nine-year-old girl and made away with a gold chain worth Rs. 20,000 from her house on the outskirts of the city in Kadugodi police station limits. The police gave the girl's name as Amni alias Meera, a second standard student of Royal School in Kadugodi. Her father, Subba Reddy (30), works as a security guard at Sai Lakshmi garment factory in Kadugodi and her mother, Anuradha, too is employed as helper in the same unit. The couple, hailing from Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh, are staying in a rented house in Kadugodi from the past one-and-a-half years, police said. Mr. Reddy left home for work around 5.30 a.m. Anuradha too went to the factory at 8 a.m. As it was a holiday for the school on account of Gowri-Ganesha festival, Amni was alone at home. Around 9.30 a.m. Amni's cousin, Ramya (9), came to Reddy's house to play with her. She found Amni lying unconscious on a mat on the floor and tried to wake her up. When she did not respond, Ramya returned home and told her aunt. Ramya's aunt came to Reddy's house and found that Amni was dead. The intruders had strangled her to death and there were nail marks on her neck, police said. On learning about the incident, Amni's parents rushed home and found that a gold chain was missing, the police said. The police suspect some one known to Reddy's family could have made away with the gold chain. Fearing that Amni would tell her parents about it, they could have killed her, the police said. The Kadugodi police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the killers.
