READY TO PERFORM: The Spanish music group Chico and The Gypsies
BANGALORE: In a preview to the concert of the Spanish music group Chico and The Gypsies in Bangalore, the group released its latest album, Nomade, at the Planet M music store here on Tuesday. The album was released by Judith Chappell, wife of Indian cricket coach Greg Chappell. The group will be performing in Mumbai on September 16 before flying in for its show at the Palace Grounds here on September 18. Releasing the CD, Ms. Chappell said she would be delighted to be at their concert in Bangalore. "I have had a quick preview of the album and I like their music. The title track is very nice. I would love to be at the concert and I hope I am invited!" she said. Asked how she related to music, Ms. Judith said: "I have grown up with music and learnt classical music for many years. I keep in touch with classical while I like soft rock too." Chico and The Gypsies play music that is a mix of the Spanish flamenco, Afro-Cuban rhythms, salsa and pop. The group, created by Chico Bouchiki, has sold over 200,000 copies of its album Vagabundo apart from sales of its hit singles such as "Nomade", "Freedom", "Bamboleo", "Djobi Djoba" and many more. The albums Bamboleo and Mosaique have sold over 100 million copies. In the last year, the group has performed in Los Angeles, where they played to an audience of 2,46,000, Amsterdam, Paris, Istanbul, Dubai, Milan, Monte Carlo, Vienna and Antalya. Apart from Chico, the group stars lead singer Manuel Gimenez, guitarist Christoph Fernand Baliardo and percussionist Abbas.
