WINNING ACCOLADES: Filmmaker T.V. Chandran interacting with Adoor Gopalakrishnan at the latter's residence in the city on Tuesday. Photo: C. Ratheesh Kumar
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: "Each strand of hair on my head is a reminder of the hardships I underwent in life and I do not want to hide it," said Adoor Gopalakrishnan, pointing to his grey frizzy hair when someone suggested that he use a hair dye. The occasion was a get-together organised to felicitate the Dada Saheb Phalke Award-winner by the members of Kerala State Chalachitra Academy (KSCA) at his house at Akkulam on Tuesday. The national recognition, which according to him came `calling at a relatively young age,' is a reminder that `I have grown old' and that `I have become a grandfather.' "To receive this award at my age is a miracle," he added. Mr. Gopalakrishnan who became a grandfather recently was just back from hospital, bringing home his daughter who had delivered a baby, and was soon in the thick of action, answering phone calls, felicitating him for the `double honours.' It was then that Minister for Cultural Affairs A.P. Anil Kumar, accompanied by Principal Secretary to Government, Department of Cultural Affairs, E.K. Bharat Bhushan; KSCA chairman T.K. Rajeev Kumar; and filmmaker T.V. Chandran, called on the filmmaker. About his latest project, a documentary on Mohiniyattom, Mr. Gopalakrishanan told the Minister that he would like to film it at the dancing hall of the Padmanabhapuram Palace.
