THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As filing of nominations for the elections to local bodies concluded on Tuesday, political parties continued negotiations to finalise pre-poll tie-ups and seat-sharing agreements. The week-long talks between the LDF and Democratic Indira Congress-Karunakaran(DIC) for a pre-poll pact in select constituencies in the district continued on Tuesday. The DIC has filed nominations in 15 corporation wards and four district panchayat divisions. Party district president P. Vijayadas said the last round of talks with the LDF had come to a tentative agreement on a tie-up in 12 corporation wards. Anticipating the deal with the DIC, the LDF had decided not to file nominations in 10 corporation wards and four district panchayat divisions. Hectic seat-sharing negotiations continued in the UDF even as the District Congress Committee (DCC) on Tuesday approved the final list of 66 Congress candidates. The IUML, which filed nominations in six constituencies, is likely to get four seats, according to UDF leaders. The CMP has been allotted six seats, the JSS and RSP(M) two each and Kerala Congress(M) one. The BJP has released the first list of 54 party candidates contesting the elections to the City Corporation. In a statement here on Tuesday, BJP district president Vellanchira Somasekharan said the party would support Nedumom Mohanan who is contesting from the Pachaloor ward. He also released the first list of 23 candidates for the elections to the district panchayat. The party would support Valsala Kumari who is contesting as an independent candidate from the Pazhanchira division, he added. Meanwhile, campaigning has begun on a subdued note. The State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday appointed observers to monitor the poll expense of candidates.
