YSR discusses poll issues with Ministers

  • YSR to hold teleconference daily until polls are over
  • Ministers urged to highlight Rajiv Nagara Baata programme
  • Cabinet decides to amend Section 304 of IPC

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has asked the Ministers to highlight various development programmes launched in the municipalities by the Congress Government during the campaign to civic bodies.

The election issue prominently figured at the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday. The Chief Minister also decided to hold teleconference daily with Congress cadres, Ministers and MPs till the municipal polls were over.

    Call to impress public

According to informed sources, Dr. Reddy told the Ministers to particularly impress upon the people that the Government had sanctioned several schemes in municipalities without seeking contributions from them as was done by the previous Telugu Desam regime.

Among the issues Dr. Reddy wanted to be highlighted are Rajiv Nagara Baata designed for overall development of urban areas, the phase two of Krishna drinking water project for augmenting drinking water supply in the State capitals with an outlay of Rs. 1,000 crores, decongestion of roads being taken up in the city at a cost of Rs. 400 crores, reduction in charges of water supply tap connection to Rs. 1,200 and the envisaged piped water supply to all in a phased manner.

The other schemes include the World Bank-aided Rs. 1,289-crores Andhra Pradesh Urban Reforms and Municipal Services project, special focus on beggars and destitute and mainstreaming of non-notified slums for integrated slum development.
