GUNTUR: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) won the first seat in Guntur district in Sattenapalli Municipality with its only opponent's nomination getting rejected on the ground that the proposer's signature was forged. The CPI(M) candidate, Avvaru Eswaramma, was the only candidate in the fray after the nomination of the Telugu Desam Party candidate Pasupuleti Venkayamma was rejected during scrutiny on Tuesday when the proposer, who had supposedly signed the nomination paper, told the returning officer that she had gone out on work and that it was not her signature.
