New York: Continuing their winning spree, Indian tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi and his Slovak partner Daniela Hantuchova upstaged sixth seeded American pair of Corina Morariu and Mike Bryan 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 to storm into the final of the mixed doubles event at the U.S. Open here. In the summit clash, the Indo-Slovak pair will meet Serbian Nena Zimonjic and his Slovenian partner Katarina Srebotnik who beat Russian Dinara Safina and Andy Ram of Israel 6-1, 7-5 in the other semifinal.
Rupesh loses
The challenge of Indian boys ended with Rupesh Roy going down fighting to his American opponent Matt Bruch 6-3, 4-6, 3-6 in the second round of the boys' singles event.
The Kolkata teenager won his first round encounter against American Nathaniel Schnugg 6-3, 6-4. The Indian boys trio of Rupesh, Vivek and Jeevan could not make much impact in the tournament. While Delhi boy Vivek Shokeen lost to Venezuelan David Navarrete 3-6, 7-5, 2-6 in the first round, the third Indian in the fray Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan also made an early exit from the tournament losing his first round match to American Jesse Levine 4-6, 4-6. In the doubles, Rupesh and his Austrian team mate David Simon was shown the door in the first round by the American pair of Kellen Damico and Tim Smyczek 6-3, 6-0. Jeevan-Shokeen doubles pair also lost in the first round to American pair of Michael McClune and Sam Querrey who won the match 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). UNI
