Conducting road shows is part of tourism promotion. The Tourism Department has undertaken such ventures in the country and abroad. But a key element of the entire exercise is to familiarise the prospective visitor through brochures. Colourful brochures in English are just not enough, many tour operators say. The brochures need to be in the language most familiar to the visitor. There are tourists from the Gulf and language is a problem for many among them. If the brochure is printed in Arabic, it will open another avenue, says Mohammed Ashraf, a tour operator from the UAE. Even for pilgrimage tourism, the same rule is applicable. Hundreds of pilgrims come every year from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, but there is very little assistance in their respective languages.
