Arrest of sugar mill workers condemned

CHENNAI: : The Pattali Makkal Katchi has condemned the arrest of workers of cooperative and public sector sugar mills for staging demonstrations. Party president G.K. Mani, in a statement here on Wednesday, said the South Indian Sugar Mills Association entered into an agreement with mill workers in February. While private mills had implemented the agreement, the cooperative and public sector mill managements were yet to give the new scales to their workers. Instead of implementing the pact, the Government was resorting to intimidatory tactics, the statement added.
