Mastakabhisheka: Panels set up to oversee arrangements

BANGALORE: The Government has constituted committees headed by officers of the rank of Principal Secretaries to oversee arrangements for the Mahamastakabhisheka to Lord Gomateshwara at Shravanabelagola in Hassan district to be held in February 2006. Artistes from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi and Maharashtra visit Shravanabelagola to take part in cultural programmes.

Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna, who is also in charge of the district, chaired a meeting of officials on the arrangements being made for the event here on Thursday. The committees have been constituted under the chairmanship of Usha Ganesh (Kannada and Culture), Shanta Kumari (Tourism), M.R. Srinivasa Murthy (KSRTC) and A. Rama Swamy (Agriculture). The committee on protocol is headed by Joint Secretary (Protocol) Divakar, for welcoming dignitaries during the festivities.

Mr. Revanna said Union Minister for Surface Transport A.R. Baalu has agreed to release Rs. 16 crores against the Rs. 20 crores he had requested for improving roads.
