NEW DELHI: The strictly amateur status of women golf in India is set for an overhaul. A women's professional golf tour, on the lines of the Indian PGA Tour, is set to roll out in December with prize money events, it was announced here on Thursday at the launch of the Women's Golf Association of India (WGAI). The WGAI, under the guidance of the Professional Golfers' Association of India (PGAI), plans to provide players with a chance to earn their living through the sport, said Champika Sayal, Secretary-General of the WGAI. To start with, the WGAI has put together an International Women's golf Skins event to be played at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon on October 22. The $18,000 event will feature four U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (USLPGA) players and one from India contesting over 18 holes of Skins event format. Besides the president of the LPGA Tour players, Heather Daly, and the Tour regular, Hilary Lunke, the Skins event will have India's first and only LPGA Tour player, Simi Mehra Guffin.
