BSP rebel MLAs case deferred

UCKNOW: The Allahabad High Court has deferred to tomorrow the hearing of BSP's petition challenging the decision in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in 2003 recognising the split in the party and its merger with the Samajwadi Party.

Justices Jagdish Bhal and M A Khan of its Lucknow bench put up the matter for tommorrow after hearing BSP counsel S C Mishra.

BSP legislature party leader Swami Prasad challenged then Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kesri Nath Tripathi's decision to recognise the split in the BSP legislature group in 2003 and merger of the party floated by the rebel MLAs with the SP.

He has also sought disqualification of the rebel MLAs under the anti-defection law.

In August 2003, 13 BSP MLAs had quit the party and formed a separate political outfit, the Loktantrik Bahujan Dal.

They were joined by 27 more BSP rebels and the outfit later merged with the SP.

Tripathi recognised the split in the BSP legislature group and its merger with the SP. - PTI
