LUCKNOW: At least 13 people died of diarrhoea and other infectious diseases in the last 24 hours in Sonebhadra and Jaunpur districts of Uttar Pradesh. A report from Robertsganj today said 11 people including six girls succumbed in Sonebhadra taking the death toll to over 100 so far. Declining comment, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Girish Chandra Srivastava assured that he would probe the cause of deaths. Meanwhile, local residents complained that the district health authorities were yet to take preventive measures in this regard.Another report from Jaunpur said two more children died of diarrhoea and contagious diseases in Jafrabad and Rampur areas of the district. Since last month, about 27 people have died following the spread of the diseases in the district. Several other patients were still undergoing treatment. However, CMO M A Haq claimed the cause of the diseases was other than the infectious diseases. - UNI
