TDP fields Congressmen: DCC

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: The District Congress Committee (DCC) has alleged that the TDP leaders of the district have scripted a drama to cover up their failures in selection of candidates to municipal elections by alleging that the Congress rivals have been threatening their candidates.

The DCC president P. Venugopal Reddy, and the Anantapur MP A. Venkatarami Reddy, accused the TDP of levelling baseless allegations to cover up its failures. They sought to know how many TDP candidates had withdrawn from the fray due to the alleged threatening by the Congress. Had there been such intimidation there should have been a deluge of withdrawals, the DCC leaders said.

The free and fair conduct of by-election to Chennekothapalli and Somandepalli ZPTCs and to the Penukonda Assembly constituency later were an ample indication of their party's belief in democracy, the DCC leaders noted. The rejection of TDP candidates' nomination papers filed in violation of the children's norm was also the party's failure as such a problem was allowed knowing well about the norms.

Allegations

On the unanimous election of Congress candidate from 35th division in Anantapur the party leaders said it depicted the TDP's pathetic condition of not finding a suitable candidate. The DCC leaders also alleged that the TDP had fielded Youth Congress leaders for 4th and 13th divisions in Anantapur. There were several other Congress sympathisers chosen by the TDP, they said. The Zilla Parishad Chairperson, G. Thippeswamy, the Rural Irrigation Corporation Chairman, Nallapa Reddy, and others were present.
