MADURAI: Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the procession planned by the Hindu Munnani in connection with the Vinayagar Chaturti celebrations here on Friday. The procession would commence at around 3.30 p.m. near Vilakkuthoon and reach the Vaigai riverbed via Masi and Veli Streets. The city police have made traffic diversions in some areas to facilitate a smooth flow of the procession. According to Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar, hundreds of police personnel, including two companies of the Rapid Action Force, would be deployed for bandobust. Night patrolling and vehicle checks had been intensified, he said.
