BANGALORE: A 27-year-old man was stabbed to death in Doddaballapur town in Bangalore Rural district on Wednesday. The police said that around 8.45 p.m. Manjunath was returning home after offering prayers to a Ganesha idol that was installed in a public place in Karenahalli area. Three of his rivals waylaid him at Karenahalli and stabbed him in the chest. Manjunath, who was rushed to a hospital, died there, the police said. The Doddaballapur police have registered a case.
Arrested
The Fraser Town police have arrested seven persons who had allegedly kidnapped a software engineer for ransom and recovered from them a multi-utility vehicle, two motorcycles, three mobile phones, gold ornaments and four debit cards. The police said that on August 20 the accused had kidnapped Rupesh, a resident of Bharathinagar, from near MEG Officers Colony on Banaswadi Road in the multi-utility vehicle. They had released him near Coles Park after obtaining a ransom of Rs. 10,000 in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs. 50,000, from his family, the police said. Rupesh had taken Rs. 25,000 from an acquaintance, Jaga, and had promised him to supply a computer. When Rupesh did not deliver the computer as promised, Jaga hired the seven-member gang to deal with Rupesh, the police said. The names of the arrested were given as Naveen Kumar (28), Ravi Kumar (30), B. Kumar (35), Albert Anthony (28), A.M. Venkatesh (28), William (24) and Daniel (27). A search is on for Jaga.
Recovered
The Upparpet police on Monday arrested seven youths in connection with robbery, theft and attempt to murder cases and recovered from them eight mobile phones, together worth Rs. 50,000. The police also seized lethal weapons from them. The seven-member gang waylaid and robbed people near Chikkalalbagh, Kempegowda bus terminus, Kempegowda Road and Subedar Chatram Road, the police said.
