KOCHI: Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) will set up a gas-based petrochemical project in Kochi. The Rs. 7,000-crore project will utilise the natural gas from the Petronet LNG project to be established here. GAIL will also distribute regasified LNG (liquified natural gas) to the NTPC plant at Kayamkulam through a 90-km offshore pipeline, said Proshanto Banerjee, Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL. The project will cost Rs. 450 crores. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said another project would be laying of pipeline for supply of regasified LNG to Coimbatore. The onshore pipeline will pass through Aluwa and Kanjikode. The project is estimated at Rs. 2,000 crores. Yet another project to be taken up by GAIL is distribution of piped natural gas in Kochi in collaboration with BPCL.
