PONDICHERRY: Travelling on a train with wild landscapes whizzing past, trees and fields rushing by, with the wind pushing your hair... seems like a nice idea. And if you are someone who likes to sketch while travelling, then this painting competition on a running train is a nice try. For the sixth time, the Pondicherry State Artists Society and School of Arts Pondicherry are organising their annual painting competition for schoolchildren on a train from Pondicherry to Villupuram. "We will be providing outline drawings to the children and they have to colour it during the 45-minute journey. We have asked them to avoid water colours due to the jolting. They can use colour pencils and crayons", says A.B. Ibert, president of the artists' society. The competition is being held on 18 September. Children studying in standards III to X may get tokens for Rs. 60 from Vidya Medicals on Mahatma Gandhi Road, Pondicherry Paper Mart also on Mahatma Gandhi Road and at Pondicherry Stationary on St. Therese Street till the 16th. The price of the token includes the cost of up and down tickets, snacks, water, tea and a participation certificate. The participants have to come in their school uniforms with their identity cards and stationery. For details, contact on phone numbers 2273859 / 2276025.
