KOZHIKODE: As many as 194 candidates are contesting the elections to the 55-member Council of the Corporation, according to the list given by election officials on Friday. The LDF, UDF and the BJP have either put up candidates of their own or are supporting others in almost all the wards of the Corporation. Straight fight between the LDF and the UDF will be witnessed at Pulakkadavu, Kallai, Mukhadar, Kuttichira and Kuthiravattom wards. IUML candidate Kunhimuhammed will take on CPI(M)'s Rajan at Pulakkadavu. Congress candidate Moideen Ahamed and CPI(M) candidate Haridas will vie for representing the Kallai ward. Rubina of IUML and Mariam of INL will fight it out at Mukhadar. Kuthiravattom will see a fight between Raseela of Congress and Prasanna of CPI(M). Kommeri ward has the highest number of candidates - six. The Congress is facing a problem from rebels at Chelavoor and Civil Station wards. Mayor Thottathil Raveendran is not contesting the election this time. Deputy Mayor P.T. Abdul Latheef is contesting from the Chakkorathukulam ward. Health Standing Committee chairman M. Bhaskaran is contesting from the Karuvassery ward.
