HYDERABAD: The BJP State unit has assured the urban electorate water, shelter, health facilities, comprehensive development, besides good governance, in its manifesto for the municipal elections. Party leaders while releasing the document here on Friday promised that it would strive to provide in all municipalities water of the Krishna, Godavari and other rivers. It would identify the reservoirs keeping in view the rainfall pattern and link them to rivers for meeting the summer needs. N. Indrasena Reddy, president, B. Dattatreya, national secretary, and T. Rajeshwar Rao, Mayor of Warangal, who is chairman of the manifesto committee, said efforts would be made to develop underground drainage and roads in all cities. Primary health facilities on the lines of those put up during the NDA regime would be created. The party, they said, would exert pressure both on the State and the Centre to constitute a slum development board, create a Rs.500-crore fund for urban development and devise schemes providing for self-employment and wage employment. Mr. Rao demanded steps to include municipalities/corporations in the non-industrial power supply category. He wanted the Government to stop diversion of funds earmarked to civic bodies by providing adequate funds under the SJSRY and NSDP.
Charge against Congress
Mr. Indrasena Reddy charged the Congress with resorting to misuse of official machinery and strong-arm tactics with the objective of forcing rivals of other parties to withdraw.
