Cheshire Day

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Cheshire Home celebrated its Founder's Day at its premises here on Wednesday.

Remembering the late Group Capain Lord Leonard Cheshire, the Chairman of the Delhi Cheshire Home, Major General Virendra Singh, described him as a crusader extraordinary who rendered singular service hitherto unmatched by anyone for the cause of physically and mentally disabled people across the world.

While differently-abled residents of the institution put up a dance and play presentation, melodious songs were sung by students of Modern School Barakhamba Road and Vasant Vihar, and Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School.

Honour for hospital

NEW DELHI: Sir Ganga Ram Hospital has become the first hospital in the subcontinent to be selected by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in the U.K. to conduct its IMRCS examination in surgery. The examination process that started at the hospital's premises here on September 5 ended on Friday.

A dozen examiners from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow conducted this prestigious examination under the supervision of the chairman of the Department of General Surgery, Vijay Arora, and his team.

About 40 candidates from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Africa, Canada and Ireland took part in the examination.

Remembering Radhakrishnan

NEW DELHI: Bal Bharati Public School on Ganga Ram Hospital Marg paid floral tributes to the late President S. Radhakrishnan to mark Teacher's Day.

After lighting the traditional lamp, the cultural presentation began. The school's choir sang "Guru Vandana" while the deputy head girl Aparajita Handa spoke on the significance of the day.

Teachers who have completed 25 years of dedicated service to the school were presented a shawl, a cheque and a citation.

Exhibition inaugurated

NEW DELHI: A month-long exhibition showcasing miniature paintings by 19th-century painter Imam Bakhsh Lahori based on the works of French poet Jean de la Fontaine, was inaugurated at the National Museum here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, French Ambassador to India Dominique Girard said that various such projects in the field of culture were in the offing between India and France.

``This exhibition is part of the EU-India exercise held this week and will help place the unique Indo-French cultural ties in historical perspective,'' he said.

``Cultural dialogue remains at the heart of Indo-France relations and this exhibition will help us enjoy its enduring wealth,'' he added.
