BANGALORE: The Karnataka Sahitya Academy has selected 18 books of different genres for its book awards for 2003. Each award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, a citation and a memento. The awards will be presented in Shimoga in the last week of October, according to Chairperson of the academy Gita Nagabhushan. The award winning books are: Raghavendra Patil's Teru (novel), Sridhar Balegar's Ile Yemba Kanasu (short story), N. Mogasale's Idalla Adalla (poetry), Anand Rigvedi's Urvi (play), Erappa M. Kambali's Heegondu top Prayana (essay), Meena Mysore's Ettanindetta (travelogue), T.S. Satyan's Kalakke Kanandi (biography), Rajendra Chenny's Amurtate mattu Parisara (literary criticism), B.V. Shirur's Bhakti Rasasone (compilation), Ganesh P. Nadora's Bellakki mattu Bulbul (children's literature), T.R. Ananthramu's Kartaranigondu Kivimaatu (science literature), K.L. Gopalakrishnaiah's Bhasheya Belaku (humanities), F.T. Hallikeri's Kanthapatra (research), B. Sujnanamurthy's Yaradi Kaadu, Sharada Gopal's Parisara Nyayada Takkadiyalli, Mrutyunjaya Rumale's Vachana Nighantu, Pradhan Gurudatt's Crossing Over (all translations) and Subbu Holeyar's Soojigatrada Kolaveyinda Manushyanobbana Haadu (first book). On Friday, the academy selected the well-known writer Nirupama and four others for its awards for 2004. Besides Dr. Nirupama, the others selected are Bhanu Musthaque, K.B. Siddaiah, Buddhanna Hingorami and Balachandra Jayashetty.
