Next course of action in three months: Siddaramaiah

Staff Reporter

Ex-Deputy Chief Minister says he will tour all constituencies from November

  • Public meeting to be organised on September 30
  • No plan to fight ouster from JD(S) legally
  • Former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna not supporting AHIND
  • Dharam Singh's Government should complete its full term

BANGALORE: Former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said he needs at least three months to chalk out a course of action against his ouster and he can decide only after touring all constituencies and interacting with leaders and workers supporting social justice espoused by the federation of minorities, backward classes and dalits' federation (AHIND).

Speaking at a meet-the-press programme at the Bangalore Reporters' Guild, Mr. Siddaramiah said he will tour the State from November informing the people of how he was "undemocratically" removed as leader of the Janata Dal (S) Legislature Party and as Deputy Chief Minister.

He has convened a meeting of the Janata Dal (S) at Palace Grounds on September 30 and invited all legislators, former MPs and legislators, zilla and taluk panchayat presidents, leaders and workers for discussing the developments in the past month.

He has also invited the Janata Dal (S) President H.D. Deve Gowda. Later, AHIND conventions will be organised in Hassan and Gulbarga.

Recalling the events that led to his ouster from the posts, Mr. Siddaramaiah said there was no charge of irresponsibility, lack of integrity or inefficiency against him. He was not accused of indulging in antiparty activity, he added.

    To approach Speaker

He said he will not take the legal recourse to fight his ouster but will complain to Legislative Assembly Speaker Krishna and the party's national leaders. The only court he will go to is that of the people, he added.

He had a word of caution to the opponents of the AHIND movement. He said minorities, the backward classes and Dalits were aware that vested interests are working against them and they have decided on a course of action to take during elections.

Mr. Siddaramiah said Surendra Mohan and Bapu Kaladate had told him that they were unhappy at his ouster.

He denied that former Karnataka Chief Minister and Maharashtra Governor S.M. Krishna has links with AHIND.

    Not for polls now

Mr. Siddaramiah supported the view that the coalition government led by N. Dharam Singh should complete its full term as frequent elections will burden the people. An election can be held only when it is necessitated by unforeseen and inevitable developments, he said.

    Leaders' effort

Asked whether the central leaders of the Janata Dal (S) have told him that he and Mr. Deve Gowda should reconcile their differences, Mr. Siddaramiah said they have assured to speak to the former Prime Minister.
