Congress likely to field lecturer for Mayor post

Correspondent

Battle lines drawn for the municipal elections

KAKINADA: With the lines being drawn for the election battle, the Congress leaders are understood to have decided in favour of Misala Lily Mary Grace for the prestigious Mayor post. Two other names are also figured earlier as the probables but Mrs. Lily Grace became the final choice with the local MLA Gopalakrishna throwing his weight behind her.

Mrs. Mary Grace has been working as Lecturer in Zoology in Aditya College for the past 12 years and considered a political novice. She has been given the Congress ticket for contesting from the 40th ward, which is witnessing a multi-cornered contest.

The Congress leadership is confident of capturing the corporation by winning a majority of seats and going ahead with its plans of projecting the candidate for Mayoralty, taking advantage of the indirect election.

However, the party is not as strong as it appears to be, as it is riddled with groupism and internal squabbles.

Every group in the party wanted to prove their supremacy as such fielded their candidates at some places as rebels.

Each group wanted to install their nominee as the Mayor, basing on the outcome of the elections.

The Telugu Desam, on the other, is confident of winning a majority of seats.

It is keeping a low profile on the nominee for Mayoralty and not projected any one for the post so far.
