COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association president, J. Balu, appealed to the Bank of India to consider assistance to the electroplating units that were planning to create common facilities for effluent treatment.

Speaking at the launch of centenary year celebrations of the bank on Saturday, he said that a number of electroplating units were facing closure due to pollution.

They had purchased 12 acres on the outskirts to relocate and create common effluent treatment facilities and the cost was estimated at Rs. 10 crores.

The bank should consider this project for the survival of small and tiny units, he said.

The Zonal Manager, A.W.M. J. Basha, said that the zone had 70 branches in 19 districts.

It had introduced core banking solutions in 10 branches.

The Commissioner, Coimbatore Corporation, Anil Meshram, inaugurated the celebrations.

The Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, S. Siva Subramanian, and the Chairman of K.G. Hospital, Dr. G. Bakthavatsalam, were the guests of honour.
