ERODE: Textile goods estimated at several lakhs with a sealed textile processing mill will be returned to respective owners, Collector D. Karthikeyan said.
Notice served
Revenue officials sealed the mill on the Periya Agraharam-Bhavani Main Road on Friday for violating norms of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB). To the press on Saturday, the Collector said that a notice was served on the mill for violation of TNPCB norms. Tamil Nadu Electricity Board was ordered to disconnect power supply, and the mill ordered closure. Despite this the mill was running using alternatives for power. As TNPCB learnt through a decoy that the mill was still functioning with full capacity, it instructed the Collector to order it closed. Following this, Revenue Officials sealed the mill. But, hundreds of textile producers from Erode and other areas told the Collector that huge stocks of their goods were at the mill and urged him to order handing over of stocks.
Discussions held
After discussions with officials, the Collector ordered Revenue Divisional Officer R. Gajalakshmi to remove the goods from the mill and seal it back. It is stated that the goods would be handed over to the producers on Sunday.
