Professionals urged not to give into peer presure

HYDERABAD: A determined resolve to have no new infections and to inculcate positive behaviour should be the watch word for people in the State that has achieved the dubious distinction of having the highest number of AIDS/HIV positive cases in the country.

This was stated by K. Damayanthi, project director, AIDS Control Society, here on Saturday while addressing the valedictory session of the HIV/AIDS Awareness Week launched by Satyam Foundation. The campaign was aimed at making the associates of Satyam and associate companies to be aware of AIDS.

Peer pressure

She advised persons involved in the software sector to say no to peer pressure in succumbing to the temptation of having unprotected sex as it has been found to be one of the causes forcing men to have a fling.

Michel Saint-Lot, Unicef representative for Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, described the awareness week as a bold first step first to be taken up by an IT major. Ms. Damayanthi and Mr. Saint-Lot gave away certificates to winners of the quiz and slogan-writing competitions conducted during the awareness week.

Hari Menon, representative, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Ravindra Penmatsa, senior vice-president, Satyam Computer Services Ltd, and others spoke.
