Man killed; mother's hand suspected

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A 30-year-old habitual drunkard was done to death allegedly by his mother under the Chatrinaka police limits in the small hours of Saturday.

According to the police, Gnaneshwar Pathak, a resident of Gowlipura, returned home in an inebriated condition around 2 a.m on Saturday. Once home, he picked up a fight with his mother, Ranibai Pathak, and other family members.

Absconding

Enraged over his daily drinking and fights, Ranibai Pathak and her second son, Santosh Pathak, allegedly attacked Gnaneshwar with a stick. However, when Gnaneshwar ran outside to save himself, Ranibai chased him and allegedly hit Gnaneshwar on his head with a pestle, killing him instantly.

The police said that Ranibai was absconding.

The police said that Gnaneshwar was married to Sheela in 1997.

They have two children. For the last four years, Gnaneshwar had taken to drinking and would frequently pick up fights with his wife and other family members. About 15 days ago, Sheela too left him and started staying with her parents. Gnaneshwar used to work as a TV mechanic, but he left the job.
