"Centre, ASI custodians of Taj"

AGRA: Dismissing the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Waqf Board's demand for custody of the Taj Mahal, the State Government on Sunday said there should be no change in the status of ownership of the monument.

"Taj is a monument of international repute and its custodians are the Government of India and the Archaeological Survey of India. It should not be given to any waqf board or any other body," Uttar Pradesh Minister for Tourism Kaukab Hameed told reporters here.

He said the closing function of the 350th anniversary of the Taj would be held in Madhavgarh Garden outside the Agra Fort from September 25-27.
