Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Indian and the United States navies will conduct a salvage exercise, `SALVEX', off Kochi from September 12 to 23. The U.S. naval ship USS Safeguard will participate in the exercise and a naval diving team and INS Matanga will represent the Indian side. This is the first combined diving salvage exercise by both navies. Extensive survey, salvage and diving exercises would form part of the exercise.

The harbour phase includes training and professional discussions between the two navies. The U.S. navy personnel will visit the Diving Training establishment here. Apart from this, the crew of the visiting ship will take part in various sports and social activities.
