Government departments busy identifying suitable candidates

  • The idea is make villagers aware of benefits of various welfare schemes
  • Folk songs, short plays will be used to drive home the message
  • Artistes will identify locally available resources

NIZAMABAD: Eight Government departments are jointly making efforts to identify youth artistes in 12 mandals in the district to spread awareness about various welfare schemes among villagers.

From each mandal eight youths will be identified and will be trained for ten days at the District Institute of Education Training here to present programmes in every village. They will take the message to people through the media of folk songs, dances and short plays.

The artistes, called Kalajatha Youth Artistes, will act as social activists.

    Daily routine

During nights they will stage cultural programmes and during the day they will interact with youth groups and women self-help groups. They will visit continuing education centres, anganwadis, residential bridge centres and schools.

The artistes will enquire about the activities of youth clubs, village organisations and SHGs and more importantly they will ascertain from villagers the problems they are facing in the areas of health and sanitation.

They will identify locally available resources and gaps in the programme implementation at the village level.

In the evening, they will stage cultural programmes and stay back for the night and on the following day will proceed to the next village. Thus, the Kalajatha artistes will cover all the villages in the selected mandals. Last month, youths from Sadasivnagar, Gandhari, Domakonda, Kamareddy, Biknoor, Nagireddypet, Bodhan, Varni, Kotagiri, Bichkunda, Nandipet and Navipet were trained and presently they are paying visits to villages.

Artistes from Dichpally, Lingampet, Yellareddy, Yedapally, Darpally, Renjal, Makloor and Pitlam who completed training on Saturday will start their programmes from September 21.

    Effective medium

According to the Project Director, Indira Kranthi Patham, P. Chinatataiah, Kalajatha is one of the effective media to create awareness among the rural masses about various socio-economic issues. With strong determination and commitment they can build a public movement to overcome problems, he feels.

Speaking at the valedictory of the training programme at the DIET, Nagaram here on Saturday, he opined that adult education, optimum usage of the Individual Sanitary Latrines and eradication of child labour system could be possible only through proper propagation.

Each artiste will be paid Rs.150 per day. Apart from the IKP, District Water Management Agency, District Primary Education Programme, District Youth Welfare Office, Adult Education Department, Medical and Health, Nehru Yuva Kendra and Rural Water Supply are participating in training youth artistes.
