New telephone directory for Kozhikode released

It has information on nearly 3.05 lakh BSNL subscribers

KOZHIKODE: M.P. Veerendrakumar, MP, released the new directory of the Kozhikode Secondary Switching Area (SSA), `Telephone Directory 2005' by handing over a copy to Sathidevi, MP, at a function at Hotel Malabar Gate on Sunday.

The new directory comprises information on nearly 3.05-lakh BSNL subscribers in Kozhikode SSA who have subscribed telephones till February 28, 2005. Kozhikode SSA comprises Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. The last directory was released in August 2003. It included the list of subscribers up to December 31, 2002.

A note from V. Sundar, general manager, Telecom, Kozhikode, in the new directory says that the equipped capacity of landline telephone exchanges in Kozhikode SSA as on June 1, 2005 is 3,97,030. The working connections are 3,22,108. There are four Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) systems and the equipped capacity of WLL is 40,000. The number of WLL connections is 12,589.

All the 100 panchayats and 166 villages in the Kozhikode SSA have been provided with public telephones. There are two National Internet Backbone (NIB) nodes, one at Kozhikode and other at Kalpetta with 16,027 Internet connections (as on June1, 2005). Recently, BSNL started Dataone (broad band services) with high speed Internet (256 kbps and above) and video on demand.

BSNL authorities said that the new directory would be distributed to subscribers from Monday.

P. Gopalakrishnan, managing director, Lunes Publishers, Thrissur, and N. Madhavanunni, deputy general manager (administration), also spoke on the occasion.
