LONDON: Chelsea turned the screws on Manchester United and Arsenal on Saturday, extending its winning sequence at the start of the season even as title rivals dropped points. A 2-0 win over lowly Sunderland made it five wins out of five for Jose Mourinho's side, on a day that saw United held to a 1-1 draw by local rival Manchester City and Arsenal slump to a 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough. Ruud van Nistelrooy's fifth goal of the season put United on track for victory in the 144th Manchester derby. After flicking a Paul Scholes free-kick towards goal, the Dutchman pounced on the rebound after a fine save by City's former England goalkeeper, David James. But City demonstrated how much more resilient it has become under Stuart Pearce when Joey Barton scrambled a 76th-minute equaliser to extend an unbeaten run that began at the tail end of last season to 13 matches.
