PONDICHERRY: The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, has said that the Government was second to none in perpetuating the contributions made by great poets like Subramania Bharati and Bharatidasan to the Tamil literature and also for national unity. Releasing documentary CDs highlighting the features of the Museum cum Research Centres of the two poets at a function on the occasion of the 84th death anniversary of Bharati here on Sunday, the Chief Minister said that Pondicherry provided a shelter to Bharati, who made several important contributions through his mighty pen and vibrant and fervent thoughts and patriotic zeal to freedom movement. As a tribute to the poet's contributions the Administration had acquired the house where the poet had resided during his 11-year-long stay in Pondicherry and spread the freedom related thoughts and passions and housed a Museum cum research centre. Similarly the works of Bharathidasan were so mighty that the Administration established a similar museum cum research centre in memory of the poet in the houses where he had resided and penned several songs for the good of the people. Mr.Rangasamy also released a souvenir covering the golden jubilee of freedom movement of Pondicherry (de facto merger movement) and a glossary of administrative Tamil on the occasion. The Local Administration Minister, A. Elumalai, received the first copies of these documents. The Development Commissioner and Secretary to Department of Art and Culture B V Selvaraj also spoke. The Director of the department, N. Sumathy, referred to the various steps taken by the department to honour literary savants in the Union Territory. Earlie r the Chief Minister accompanied by his ministerial colleagues, the legislators and delegates of various organisations garlanded the statue of Bharati in Bharati Park near Raj Nivas. The Pondicherry PCC president P Shanmugham paid tributes to the poet at the PCC office.
