Staff Reporter
NELLORE: The Nellore MLA, Anam Vivekananda Reddy, has dismissed reports about the so-called `unilateral' selection of candidates for the forthcoming elections to Nellore Municipal Corporation. Mr. Reddy asserted that the selection was strictly in accordance with the guidelines and suggestions of the Pradesh Congress Committee and the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Addressing a meeting organised here at the Indira Congress Bhavan, on Sunday, where the party's candidates for all the 37 divisions were present, he claimed that the social and economic considerations were taken into consideration before undertaking the selection of candidates. Mr. Reddy's remarks assumed significance in the light of reports that the entire list of candidates was dominated by Anam brothers, resulting in a raw deal to the Nedurumalli group. The MLA reeled out the development works undertaken by the Government during the last 15 months and assured that it would take up welfare programmes like issuance of ration cards, housing and so on.
