KARACHI: Despite missing two penalty corners, Indian captain Dilip Tirkey marshalled the defence to help Sindh Qalanders register its first win in the Super Hockey League of Pakistan beating Capital Dynamos 3-2. Shabbir Hussain scored a brace for Qalandars in the match at the Hockey Club of Pakistan on Saturday. Qalandars opened the scoring in the second minute when Gohar Rasool slotted home off a penalty corner. The Indian captain Tirkey missed the second penalty corner scooping the ball over the bar but showed his leadership qualities by motivating and advising his team-mates defending against the Dynamos. Tirkey was once again unsuccessful when he missed off a short corner after Shabbir had scored the third goal in the 46th minute. Meanwhile, Tirkey's compatriot Gagan Ajit Singh had a forgettable day on the field as he lived a subdued existence for Dynamos. Singh's only contribution in the match was a free hit off which Shahid Rabbani's rasping reverse flick from the top of the circle found the target in the 30th minute. With just 30 seconds left, Singh almost got the equaliser but veteran Muhammad Usman's reverse shot on his assist went a bit too high. UNI
