Special Correspondent
GULBARGA: Historian B.V. Shirur on Sunday said there is a need to publish a comprehensive history of Hyderabad Karnataka region and the Gulbarga University should take a leading role in projecting the history of the region in a proper perspective. Mr. Shirur was delivering the presidential address at the three-day 19th history conference organised by the Karnataka Itihasa Academy at Sedam in Gulbarga district. Mr. Shirur said the Kannada University at Hampi had come out with the details of the scriptures recovered in Koppal, Raichur, and Bellary districts, but the comprehensive history of Gulbarga and Bidar districts was yet to be published. Gulbarga under the Moghul rule and Bahamani Dynasty had witnessed many historical events. The contribution of Urdu to the literature of the region and its impact on the culture of the region needs to be properly projected. Till recently, historians had not taken seriously the events mentioned in the epics and dismissed them as mere stories, but the opinion about the epics and manuscripts has changed now. The manuscripts available in the region should be properly documented. It should be highlighted how the art and culture thrived under the different dynasties should be highlighted.
