CHENNAI: The `Story of Greenpeace' exhibition concluded its journey across the city at Alliance Francaise of Madras on Saturday.

A primer on the history of Greenpeace and its major campaigns and achievements in 34 years, the exhibition leaves on Sunday for Mumbai and Bangalore.

Greenpeace is a global environmental activist organisation, often in the news for its maverick, disruptive and novel protests. While questions on environmental issues that make the news were projected on a screen for a few eager quizzers, visitors had a visual roundup of Greenpeace in action across the world. The small beginning with the early, lesser-known protests against the 1971 American nuclear tests grew into the more visible and colourful protests against whaling in several countries. Greenpeace India has famously forced HLL to clean up its act in Kodaikanal in 2002.

All these moments are captured in pictures that include unforgettable snapshots of giant hulls of whalers looming over the Greenpeace inflatable dinghies and a balloon carrying an anti-nuclear message adorning the skyline behind the Taj Mahal.

Documentaries such as `Miles to Go', a film on 26 `toxic hotspots' identified by Greenpeace in India, were also screened. ``We are just trying to make people aware of environmental issues through this exhibition that has already been to IIT Madras and Amethyst.

The response has been quite good,'' says Abhilash of the Greenpeace Chennai office.
