KARIMNAGAR: The Minister for Sports and Culture, M. Satyanarayana Rao, exuded confidence that the Congress would win all the municipalities in Karimnagar district including the Karimnagar municipal corporation. Speaking after the introduction programme of the candidates of Congress and Left parties here on Sunday, the Minister said that the Congress would retain the Karimnagar municipal corporation mayor post with a thumping majority. People would vote for the Congress for the developmental works it had taken up in the last 15 months in the town, he added.
He said that the party had given tickets based on local equations and accepted that "some injustice was done to deserving candidates". He appealed to the rebel candidates to withdraw from contest and support official candidates. He also assured that their `sacrifices' would be duly recognised. Appreciating the alliance with the Left parties in the district, he said that they had played an active role during the power tariff agitation. He was also all praise for the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy for his padayatra, which boosted the party morale during the general elections.
Flak for Naidu
Criticising the TDP president, N Chandrababu Naidu, for neglecting core sectors of irrigation and agriculture, he said that if Mr. Naidu had completed irrigation projects such as SRSP flood flow canal on the Godavari, water would not have been wasted into the sea and entire upland regions would have been irrigated.
He also called upon the party candidates to highlight the developmental works taken up during the Congress regime in Karimnagar town.
The DCC president, T. Santosh Kumar, the APCC district observer, Niranjan, the CPI district secretary, Marri Venkat Swamy, the CPI-M town secretary, Sarangapani, and the Congress city president, A Bhaskar Reddy were present.
