TEAM EFFORT: Kuturu Laxma Reddy and his wife Satyavathi, TRS candidates for ward no. 3 and 36, canvassing in VT Colony in Nalgonda on Sunday.
NALGONDA: Sacrificing their personal lives for the sake of public service, three couples entered into the municipal election fray in Nalgonda district. Kuturu Laxma Reddy, who retired as a teacher in 2001, is following in the footsteps of his wife and three-time councillor, Kuturu Satyavathi. While Mr. Reddy filed his papers for ward number three in Nalgonda Municipality, his better-half is challenging the former Municipal Chairperson, Pullemla Venkatanarayana Goud, of the Congress in ward number 36. The duo is contesting on TRS ticket. ``Our younger son settled in the US and two daughters have been married off. To come out of the shock of my elder son Venkat Reddy's demise and also to serve the people, I am also contesting this time,'' Mr. Reddy told The Hindu on Sunday.
Road accident
The MPTC member of Anneparthy, Venkat Reddy, died in a road accident last December. The couple, who reside in Ravindranagar, go together to meet voters of their respective wards and people accord rousing reception to them. Perhaps to counter the "couple's campaign'', Mr. Goud is also taking his wife for the door-to-door campaign in the VT Colony. The BJP accommodated its town president, Vemula Ashok (ward no. 13) and his wife Bhagyawati (ward 16) in Bhongir municipality. Interestingly they were forced migrate to other wards as their locality is reserved for BC candidate. ``Ditched'' by the BJP leadership, Chella Annapurna, former councillor and her husband, Venkateswarlu, are testing their luck in 24 and 25 wards respectively in Suryapet municipality as Independents. Annapurna won the last election from ward number 18.
