HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's `Rajiv Nagara Baata' programme has attracted the attention of several States and they are keen on adopting its design and implementation methodology. Senior officials of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Rajasthan conveyed this to representatives of the Administrative Staff College of India (ACSI). They said they found in the programme an effective approach for involving communities and increasing convergence and coordination of departments for bringing about improvement in service delivery.
Involvement
The involvement of the Chief Minister in the programme through his visits to each and every town taking administration to the doorstep of people was one of the aspects that impressed the other States. The Rapid Assessment and Feedback on Town (RAFT) approach for implementing the programme envisaging identification of the priorities of communities at the local level and evolving action plan was equally appreciated by the States intending to launch a similar initiative. Dr. Reddy, who held a meeting with officials on Sunday, wanted them to take the street as a unit to ensure that the planning of infrastructure projects covered all the households. During the discussions, the officials suggested that the State could prepare a blueprint of its urban water supply project and seek a special package from the Centre during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Sriharikota on September 21. Dr. Reddy, however, said the Government could consider the proposal subject to the code.
