5,000 Jains gather for `forgiveness day'

ALL EARS: Devotees listening to Jain sadhus and sadhvis on the occassion of Samuhik Shamapana sammelan in city on Sunday.

HYDERABAD: Shri Jain Seva Sangh, the organisation representing the entire Jain community in and around the twin cities, on Sunday organised Samuhik Shamapana Sammelan, a day of universal forgiveness, at Bharat Scouts and Guides, Domalguda.

The Jain community celebrate the day following the completion of `Paryushan Parva,' eight days of religious festivities, wherein the entire community observes fasting and shuns comforts of life.

Several sadhus and sadhvis participated. About 5,000 Jains attended the programme.

The sadhus spoke about the three main objectives of serving, sacrifice and unity. The participants sought forgiveness from fellow community members and others for any harm done intentionally or unintentionally. There are about 30,000 Jains who have settled in the city.
