HYDERABAD: About 500 children from Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Karnataka and Kerala, besides host Andhra Pradesh will meet here for five days from October 6 as part of the Southern Children's Science Festival. Kids in the twin cities will host the visitors during the meet, which is being organised by Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV).

B.N.Reddy, president, and A.V.Subba Rao, general secretary of the JVV's city unit, told a press conference here on Sunday that the festival was being held to inculcate scientific temper, create awareness and unearth talent.

Children would take part in daily discussions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. They would also take up debate on subjects of interest such as magic, fine arts, culture, languages, handicrafts and toy making.

Eminent men and women in different fields, such as scientists, artistes, sportspersons, would address the children as part of the fete. The participants would also have the opportunity of visiting various scientific institutions located here. About 150 experts from different States would conduct experiments to create interest in the children.

    Multiple benefits

Not only children, even teachers would benefit from the festival, as it would become a training centre for them in the shape of workshops, improved teaching methods and modern techniques. Teachers would have the chance to learn methods that would create interest in subjects among children.

While seeking cooperation of interested persons to make the festival a success, the vedika urged parents to register their children's names for participation and also to play host to the visitors. Those interested could contact Dr. Reddy (94401-15535) for details.
