Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in Sowcarpet (East), Nehru Nagar, Hastinapuram, Kadapperi, Mummoorthy Nagar, Chintadripet, Flower Bazaar, S.K. Nagar including Moore Street, Muthialpet, Park Town, Wall Tax Road, Porur SS area and Mandaveli from 9 a.m to 5 p.m on Tuesday for maintenance work.

Self-financing courses

The inaugural function for the School of Business and Managements's self financing courses was held at D.B.Jain College, Thorapakkam recently. Sujith Kumar of Infosys spoke on "what industry looks from fresh graduates?" and motivated students to learn and mould themselves to needs of modern corporate world. M. Sakthivel Murugan, professor and Principal, C. Arunachalam spoke.

Eye check-up

Vision Care, Kapaleshwar Optics and Savera Opticians are jointly conducting a free eye check -up for teachers from September 15 to september 30, in connection with Teachers' Day celebrations. To participate in the camp teachers should bring their identity cards.

Mahasamprokshanam

The Mahasamprokshanam of Yoganarasimhar, Varadhar, Thirumazhisaiazhwar shrines and western Gopuram at Sri Parthasarathy Swamy temple, Triplicane, would be held on Wednesday at 5 a.m.

Seva camp

At a Narayana Seva camp conducted by Hindu Mission hospital at Mudichur community hall near Tambaram on Sunday, 201 patients were treated by seven doctors. Of this, 14 cases of eye defects were referred for intra-ocular lens treatment. The patients were treated for eye, dental, physical, ENT and skin treatment.

New courses in Arts College

The Government Arts College for Men (autonomous), Nandanam, Chennai will offer M.Sc mathematics and M.Sc computer science courses under the self -financing scheme from this year. It will be a coeducation course. For details contact phone number 24310589/24351048.

Health programme

The Lions Club Dist 324 A1,Region VII, Zone II conducted a comprehensive health camp on Friday at Corporation high school, V.P.Koil Street, Mylapore. Eye and dental check up camps were conducted. About 375 students also received vitamin tablets.

Official suspended

The State Government has placed a deputy collector under suspension on charges of issuing illegal pattas for government land worth Rs. 20 crores. V. Subramani, deputy collector of Egmore-Nungambakkam taluk, was placed under suspension on the basis of a report submitted by revenue officials on his actions while he was Nungambakkam tahsildar last year. Official sources said the officer issued "illegal" pattas for a temple land (Egmore-Nungambakkam taluk) and a piece of land belonging to the State Housing Board in (Mylapore-Triplicane taluk).

The district administration has taken action against four more officials, including a tahsildar and two sub-inspectors of survey, the sources added.
