Corneal blindness prevention workshop

CHENNAI:
Sankara Nethralaya co-hosted a one-day workshop on prevention of corneal blindness, on Tuesday in its premises.
The Directorate General of Health Service, New Delhi, which chose the eye hospital for the programme, provided the guidelines for the programme.
Eye banks across the country observed the 20th national eye donation fortnight from August 25 to September 8.
K. Ananda Kannan, former vice-chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, inaugurated the workshop.
Brij Bhushan, deputy assistant director general (ophthalmology), delegates from ORBIS, Eye Bank Association of India, State and district programme officers of NPCB from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Pondicherry attended the workshop.
A.P. Irungovel, special executive of Eye Bank of Sankara Nethralaya said every individual who pledged to donate eyes was acknowledged with a laminated card.
