CHENNAI:
: The festive season for Keralites in the city is on. The ancient culture of Kerala and the fresh aroma of exotic Keralite food fill several pockets of this metropolis.
At the Mogappair Malayalee Samajam, Onam was celebrated with actor Sheela, singers Unni Menon and Jolly Abraham. They organised `Onapokkalams,' `Onasadya' and performed traditional Onam dances.
Malayalam daily Matrubhoomi held its annual `Onapokkalam competition' on Sunday. There were 49 teams of four members each.
Participants were given two hours to complete their creations.
The first prizefrom Prince Jewellery was gold jewellery worth Rs. 15,000, the second worth Rs. 10,000, and the third worth Rs. 7,000.
Malayala Manorama celebrated Onam in Chennai with a `Mimics Parade' and music concert by Cochin Kalabhavan at the Music Academy.
The Malayalee Club held its annual Onam feast. A team of cooks from Thrissur were in the city to prepare the Onam specialities.
