Girl found dead in sump

Staff Reporter

5-year-old goes missing on September 5

HYDERABAD: A five-year-old girl Siri Vennela, who went missing from Monday, was found dead inside a water sump near her house at White Fields locality in Kondapar on Saturday.

The victim's father and mother are working as labourers at an apartment building which is under construction.

Madhapur Inspector Jayaram said the victim might have slipped into the sump. After searching the area in vain, the parents lodged a complaint on Tuesday following which the police booked a case. On Saturday, locals told the police that foul smell was emanating from a sump.

When the police went to the spot and removed the sump's cover, the bloated body of the girl surfaced in the water.

Generally, the workers close the sump in the evening hours. The girl probably fell and was drowned in the sump in the afternoon.

"No one knew about the girl's fate since the sump was closed in the evening," the Inspector said.
